Nixing an antitrust suit brought by Eisai Inc., a New Jersey federal judge ruled that Sanofi-Aventis US LLC did not violate federal law by entering into discount contracts with hospitals that purchased large amounts of its anticoagulant drug Lovenox, according to an opinion unsealed on Friday.

Eisai Inc. destroyed evidence and should face sanctions in its case alleging that Sanofi-Aventis US LLC used supply contracts for the anti-coagulant Lovenox to harm competition, Sanofi told a New Jersey federal court in a filing made public Thursday.

Japanese pharmaceutical company Eisai Inc. lodged an appeal Friday of a magistrate judge's ruling that it couldn't make Sanofi-Aventis US LLC produce deposition transcripts from a 2003 antitrust suit, arguing Sanofi misled the court by claiming the old suit involved different parties and another drug, contract and market.
