Gibson Guitar Corp. on Wednesday brought out the big guns in its fight against the Lacey Act, the environmental law behind recent raids by the U.S. Department of Justice over allegedly criminal ebony imports, hiring Crowell & Moring LLP to argue for the law's repeal.

Gibson Guitar Corp.'s Nashville, Tenn., headquarters was raided Wednesday by federal agents who seized imported wood and guitars in a criminal investigation into whether Gibson illegally harvested hardwoods from protected forests in Madagascar and India, an action the company said amounted to bullying.
