AbbVie Inc. has won a ruling in New York federal court declaring invalid a patent for the anti-inflammatory drug Humira held by the Mathilda and Terence Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology Trust, meaning the drugmaker no longer will have to pay the trust licensing fees.

A New York federal judge on Friday shot down a move by the Mathilda and Terence Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology Trust to dismiss Abbott Biotechnology Ltd.'s suit over the institute's patent allegedly covering the anti-inflammatory drug Humira.
