A California federal judge on Friday tossed a putative class action against Redbox Automated Retail LLC, finding that state legislation forbidding the collection of customers' ZIP codes didn't apply to the company's video rental kiosks.

Redbox Customers Seek Class Cert. In ZIP Code Suit
A group of Redbox Automated Retail LLC customers asked a California federal judge on Tuesday to certify a class action against the DVD rental company that claims it forced customers to provide their ZIP codes after California's Supreme Court found the practice illegal.
