A California federal judge on Wednesday tossed an antitrust suit seeking to break up the recently completed $1.4 billion merger between Southwest Airlines Co. and AirTran Holdings Inc., ruling the direct purchasers who lodged the suit weren't entitled to any injunctive relief.

Southwest Airlines Co. and AirTran Holdings Inc. were sued in California federal court Tuesday by a group of direct purchasers of airline tickets who claim the carriers' $1.4 billion merger will threaten competition, resulting in higher fares and diminished services.
