A FirstEnergy Corp. affiliate on Friday agreed in principle to a settlement with the Sierra Club and two state environmental organizations in a $9.4 million suit over alleged arsenic poisoning at a West Virginia power plant.

An Allegheny Energy Inc. unit asked a federal judge on Thursday to dismiss a suit filed by conservation groups over alleged arsenic discharges in West Virginia waters, contending the groups neglected to show that their members have a stake in those waters.
