Firms Seek $1.1M In Fees For Deal On Comcast Set-Top Boxes
Begley Carlin & Mandio LLP, NastLaw LLC and Wexler Wallace LLP urged a federal court in Philadelphia on Friday to approve $1.1 million in fees on top of a $15.5 million class action settlement between Comcast and subscribers who claim the company unlawfully forced them to rent set-top boxes from the cable company.

Comcast and a group of subscribers won preliminary approval Wednesday from a Pennsylvania federal judge who signed off on their years-old $15.5 million deal resolving an antitrust class action over tying premium subscriptions to cable box rentals, with payouts largely limited to customers who opted out of an arbitration clause.

A Pennsylvania federal judge on Thursday denied a proposed settlement of multidistrict litigation in which Comcast agreed to pay $15.5 million to resolve claims it forced premium subscribers to rent set-top boxes, saying the subscribers haven't come up with an effective way of determining who belongs in the putative class.
