Somaxon Pharmaceutical Inc. said Tuesday it had settled patent infringement suits against generic drugmakers Mylan Inc. and Par Pharmaceutical Cos. Inc., striking deals that will keep generic versions of Somaxon's insomnia treatment drug from hitting the U.S. market until 2020.

Somaxon Pharmaceuticals Inc. hit Par Pharmaceutical Cos. Inc. with a patent infringement suit in Delaware on Thursday, seeking to prevent the release of the generic drug maker's version of Somaxon's prescription insomnia medication Silenor.
