Plaintiffs in a class action over the 2005 merger that created Sprint Nextel Corp. largely lost their bid on Wednesday to compel information on a U.S. government inspection of the company's accounting firm KPMG Inc., after a Missouri federal judge ruled the documents in the investigation were privileged.

Shareholders in a class action over the 2005 merger that created Sprint Nextel Corp. asked a Kansas federal court Wednesday to force KPMG Inc. to hand over documents it compiled while evaluating Sprint and Nextel's financial statements.
