A New York federal judge on Wednesday awarded more than $2 million to a former employee of apparel importer Dana Kay Inc. for blowing the whistle on a plot by his employer and Siouni & Zar Corp. to fraudulently undervalue their imports in order to avoid millions of dollars in tariffs.

Two apparel importers on Wednesday agreed to fork over $10 million in order to settle a whistleblower suit under the False Claims Act after admitting to fraudulently undervaluing imports in order to avoid millions of dollars in tariffs at the border, according to filings in New York federal court.
