An Illinois federal judge Tuesday axed Visual Interactive Phone Concepts' lawsuit claiming U.S. Cellular infringed on its patent for an interactive mailbox system for videophones, saying the patent does not cover patentable subject matter.

An Illinois federal judge on Thursday refused to toss Visual Interactive Phone Concepts Inc.'s lawsuit against U.S. Cellular Corp. for the alleged infringement of two patents covering an interactive mailbox facility system for videophones, saying the patents weren't rendered invalid.
