A Georgia federal judge on Friday denied Imperial Sugar Co.'s bid to dismiss or transfer to Texas a suit brought by American Guarantee & Liability Insurance Co. disputing its obligation to defend Imperial in worker lawsuits over a 2008 sugar refinery explosion.

American Guarantee & Liability Insurance Co. sued Imperial Sugar Co. on Friday, saying it is not obligated under a $25 million excess coverage policy to defend Imperial over a 2008 sugar refinery explosion in Georgia and resulting worker lawsuits.
