Hagens Berman, Grunenthal To Settle Time-Barred Suits
Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP has agreed to pay Grunenthal GmbH $145,000 and drop three thalidomide birth defect claims after being sanctioned for litigating the time-barred suits, according to the pharmaceutical company's unopposed motion for judgment filed in Pennsylvania federal court on Tuesday.

Hagens Berman Objections To GSK Settlement Probe Rebuffed
A Pennsylvania federal judge Tuesday overruled law firm Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP's objections to having a special master interview more than 30 clients who dropped their birth defect suits against GlaxoSmithKline LLC and others, saying the interviews would ensure the plaintiffs actually consented to an agreement dismissing their suits.

GlaxoSmithKline LLC asked a Pennsylvania federal judge on Wednesday to dismiss "meritless" thalidomide birth defect claims for which it agreed not to seek sanctions against Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, and said it wants no part of the firm's dispute with the court over whether those claims were dropped voluntarily.

A Pennsylvania federal judge has denied Grunenthal GmbH and Sanofi-Aventis U.S. LLC's bid for a final judgment in a thalidomide birth defect injury suit by a plaintiff whose claims he shot down last year as time-barred, saying that he would not shut the case until he learns whether that plaintiff and others were later forced to drop their claims in the litigation.
