Pfizer Inc. settled the first scheduled bellwether trial Wednesday in the multidistrict litigation in Alabama alleging the company should have known its smoking cessation drug Chantix was linked to depression and suicidal behavior, days after it failed to win a stay in the case.

Pfizer Fails To Delay Chantix Trial Despite New Study
An Alabama federal judge on Tuesday refused to grant Pfizer Inc. a stay in the upcoming trial over allegations that its smoking cessation drug Chantix was linked to depression and suicidal behavior despite the pharmaceutical giant's new study that it said needed months for consideration.
