A California federal judge on Monday dismissed some copyright infringement claims the estate of rock 'n' roll photographer Jim Marshall filed against clothing designer John Varvatos, saying the estate hadn't proven it owned the copyrights to some photos that were allegedly used without permission.

The estate of legendary rock 'n' roll photographer Jim Marshall slammed menswear designer John Varvatos with a copyright infringement lawsuit Thursday, claiming the clothier displayed more than a dozen Marshall photographs in stores across the country without permission after the photographer died in 2010.
