California-based Kan-Di-Ki LLC has agreed to pay $17.5 million to settle a whistleblower's False Claims Act suit, putting to rest allegations the diagnostic services provider wrongfully doled out kickbacks in exchange for referrals of services it billed to state and federal health care programs, authorities said Wednesday.

A California federal judge on Thursday scolded counsel for diagnostic services provider Kan-Di-Ki LLC, ruling the lawyers broke court rules by not trying to meet and confer with whistleblowers' attorneys before filing a summary motion in a False Claims Act suit.

The U.S. government on Friday blasted Kan-Di-Ki LLC's attempts to toss a False Claims Act suit against it in California federal court, saying the diagnostic services provider misconstrued the whistleblowers' requirements to prove underlying criminal Anti-Kickback Statute violations in the case.
