A California federal judge on Wednesday gave a Hewlett-Packard Co. laptop buyer the green light to pursue class claims that the company peddled computers without disclosing they had insufficient power to handle software upgrades, saying the suit offered a credible fraudulent omission theory.

A California federal judge on Thursday tossed a proposed class action accusing Hewlett-Packard Co. of deceptively selling two lines of computers that had inadequate power supplies, saying the plaintiff failed to sufficiently allege breach of contract, unfair competition and fraud claims.

Hewlett-Packard Co. on Thursday removed to California federal court a putative class action alleging that various models of the company's lines of Slimline and Pavilion computers were deceptively marketed and sold with inadequate power supplies.
