A New York tire company reached an agreement with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, according to a consent decree in federal court on Thursday, dismissing a discrimination suit in return for a $2.1 million payout and an order not to base hiring decisions on applicants' sex.

EEOC Says Tire Co. Spoiled Evidence In Sex Bias Suit
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission told a New York federal judge on Monday that Mavis Discount Tire Inc. got rid of important applications and resumes after the filing of a worker's sex discrimination charge, saying the lack of documents made the class of rejected but qualified female applicants "artificially smaller."
