A Texas federal judge on Tuesday put Liberty Mutual on the hook for part of U.S. Metals' $2.2 million settlement with ExxonMobil over the cost to replace defective components in the oil giant's refinery equipment but dismissed U.S. Metals' bad faith claims against the insurer after finding there was a legitimate dispute regarding coverage.

Liberty Mutual on Monday asked a federal judge to limit its potential coverage of U.S. Metals Inc.'s $2.2 million settlement with ExxonMobil over the cost to replace defective components in the oil giant's refinery equipment, saying that a Texas Supreme Court ruling in the case last year restricts coverage to certain damaged parts.
