A California federal judge on Tuesday rejected Mary Kay Inc. and Estee Lauder Inc.'s attempts to appeal rulings that allowed two putative class actions over their animal testing practice disclosures to survive, saying there's not enough ground for differences of opinion on the issues they raised.

The Estee Lauder Cos. Inc. and Mary Kay Inc. asked a California federal judge on Monday to let them appeal recent decisions in two putative class actions alleging they failed to properly disclose their animal testing practices, saying the rulings put too broad a disclosure duty on manufacturers.

A California federal judge on Thursday tossed a proposed class action claiming Estee Lauder Inc. and Mary Kay Inc. falsely advertised they never tested their products on animals, saying the plaintiffs hadn't shown they'd actually been hurt by the alleged lies.

Estee Lauder Inc. and Mary Kay Inc. said Monday that plaintiffs in California have relied too heavily on the claims of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in filing a putative class action, wrongly taking the group at its word when it said the cosmetic giants were testing their products on animals.
