YouTube LLC and Amazon.com Inc. on Thursday escaped lawsuits brought in California alleging the companies infringe a patent purportedly covering Internet video streaming.

YouTube LLC and Amazon.com Inc. have each asked a California federal judge to decide that the companies do not infringe the patent of a litigant who "essentially claims to have invented streaming video over the Internet," according to two motions for summary judgment filed Wednesday.
