A Washington federal judge on Tuesday sentenced a key government informant in a failed foreign government bribery sting to 18 months in prison for his own criminal behavior, rejecting the defense's and government's pleas for a probation-only punishment.

Prosecutors asked a Washington federal court Monday to keep admitted briber Richard Bistrong out of prison because of the assistance he provided to the government in its massive and ultimately unsuccessful operation against military industry executives accused of bribing Gabonese officials.
