A California federal judge on Wednesday declined to certify a class of Wells Fargo Bank NA home loan refinancing applicants who were allegedly subjected to illegal age discrimination, saying two would-be borrowers failed to show they could accurately identify other class members.

A couple who claims Wells Fargo practiced illegal age discrimination by ignoring their retirement savings when they applied to refinance their home loan urged a California federal judge Thursday to certify a class of other borrowers under age 59 1/2 years old who faced a similar process.
