Jurors on Friday convicted a Detroit-area doctor of health care fraud in connection with a $6.7 million scam in which Medicare beneficiaries were plied with fast food and controlled substances in exchange for undergoing unnecessary neurological exams that were billed to the federal government.

A Michigan man pled guilty Wednesday to recruiting and paying patients to receive medically unnecessary diagnostic tests as part of a $5.5 million Medicare fraud scheme that has already led to several guilty pleas by other defendants.
