A California federal judge on Tuesday threw out key claims by Monster Inc. in an ongoing trademark dispute with rival entertainment technology company Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corp., finding that Monster couldn't show that Dolby had abandoned its headphone trademark.

Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corp. told a California federal judge Tuesday that rival Monster Cable Products Inc. is barred by precedent from asking the court to dissect an unregistered mark into separate parts in a trademark dispute over the companies' respective lines of headphones.
