Judge Buries Suit Over Va. Medical Certificate Of Need Law
A Virginia federal judge on Thursday ruled that Virginia's requirement that new medical service providers receive a certificate of public need before being allowed to do business in the state doesn't discriminate against interstate commerce, granting summary judgment to state health officials.

Va.'s Medical Certification Law Hurts Competition, Suit Says
A Virginia law requiring certain out-of-state medical providers to obtain a certificate of need before they set up shop in the state — a law that exists in several states — is unconstitutional and stifles competition, according to a lawsuit lodged in Virginia federal court Tuesday.
