A California federal judge on Monday entered final judgment in favor of Realtek Semiconductor Corp. and against LSI Corp. and Agere Systems LLC in the amount of $3.8 million in contractual damages in a suit brought by Realtek over licensing for two wireless networking patents.

A California federal jury on Wednesday found that LSI Corp. should be paid about half what it was seeking in royalties for the licensing of two of its wireless networking patents, in the first district court suit in which a jury determined what are known as reasonable and nondiscriminatory, or RAND, terms.

A California federal judge on Monday ruled that LSI Corp. initiated a patent complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission in an attempt to force a Wi-Fi chipmaker suing for breach of contract to pay higher royalties for the standard-essential patents.
