A Florida federal judge on Thursday partially granted BBVA Compass Bancshares Inc.'s request to compel arbitration in a putative class action accusing the company of sending unsolicited text messages promoting a mobile banking application, ruling the named plaintiff's user agreement prevents him from pursuing his claims in court.

A Florida cellphone user lodged a putative class action against BBVA Compass Bancshares Inc. in federal court Wednesday, accusing the company of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by sending out unsolicited text messages promoting a new version of its mobile banking application.
