A Delaware federal judge on Thursday ordered Joao Bock Transaction Systems LLC to pay a financial software company it unsuccessfully sued for patent infringement $1 million in attorneys' fees, finding Bock's inefficient approach to the case was "objectively unreasonable and burdensome."

The owner of an online transaction security patent asserted against financial software provider Jack Henry & Associates Inc. said Wednesday it will appeal to the Federal Circuit a decision that deemed the patent invalid because it claimed nothing more than an abstract idea, according to a Delaware federal court filing.
