A Chinese chemical company is now owed $75 million for winning a trial on its claims that the heads of its U.S. distributor secretly created a competing business, after a North Carolina federal judge tacked an additional $40 million on to a roughly $35 million jury verdict.

A North Carolina federal jury on Tuesday awarded nearly $35 million to a Chinese maker of a chemical used in agricultural fertilizer, finding that the leaders of a company it contracted to distribute its product in the U.S. went behind its back to create a competing business.
