Gallup Inc. has agreed to pay $10.5 million to settle a False Claims Act suit alleging the company overbilled government agencies for polling contracts and let a federal official guide a contract to the firm as he was being considered for employment there, the U.S. Department of Justice said Monday.

The U.S. government on Wednesday expanded its involvement in an ex-Gallup Inc. employee's False Claims Act suit over the company's billing practices, alleging Gallup violated procurement laws by failing to disclose it had engaged in employment talks with a government official who helped negotiate a $1.5 million subcontract awarded to it.

A Washington federal judge on Friday granted the U.S. permission to expand its involvement in a False Claims Act whistleblower suit against Gallup Inc., allowing the government to intervene on a claim that Gallup offered a job to a Federal Emergency Management Agency official in order to secure a subcontract.
