EBay Inc. settled antitrust suits over its hiring practices from the U.S. Department of Justice and California on Thursday, promising to put an end to agreements not to pursue other technology companies' employees and paying the state $3.75 million.

The U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday urged a California judge to deny eBay Inc.'s bid to escape an antitrust suit, saying it didn't have to show that eBay and software company Intuit Inc. hurt competition by agreeing not to hire each other's employees, because the deal was "obviously anti-competitive."

The U.S. Department of Justice and the state of California hit eBay Inc. with lawsuits on Friday claiming that the San Jose-based company ran afoul of antitrust laws by striking a deal not to recruit or hire Intuit Inc. employees.
