Intrade.com told a Washington, D.C., federal judge Sunday that the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission's $3 million civil penalty against the Irish exchange website is too harsh for a number of reasons, including that the site barely benefited from its facilitation of illegal options trading.

A D.C. federal judge ruled in favor of the Commodity Future Trading Commission on Friday on two counts in its suit alleging an Irish online trading exchange participated in illegal trading of options, holding some of the products the website offered fell under a U.S. ban.
