A Texas company dropped its suit against J.C. Penney Corp. Inc. accusing the retail giant of infringing its patented bar code technology that allows customers to procure product information through print advertisements with their cellphones, according to a joint motion filed Friday in Texas federal court.

J.C. Penney Co. Inc. was hit with a patent infringement suit Friday in Texas by a company that says the U.S. retailer has infringed bar code technology that allows customers to use their mobile phones to get additional information in conjunction with print advertisements.
