A Texas federal judge said Thursday that a state law designed to protect free speech prevents two former employees of the Houston Police Department's crime lab from personally suing former Harris County District Attorney Patricia Lykos for allegedly costing them their jobs.

Two former employees of the Houston Police Department's crime lab sued Harris County District Attorney Patricia Lykos in Texas federal court Monday, accusing her office of retaliating against them for raising concerns over the police department's breath alcohol testing program.
