An Ohio federal judge on Friday denied a move by college bookstores in an antitrust suit involving copyright issues to force two publishers to supply them with textbooks before the start of a local university's winter semester, finding the bookstores are unlikely to succeed on the merits of their claims.

An Ohio State University bookstore hit textbook publishing companies Cengage Learning Inc. and Pearson Education Inc. with a federal antitrust lawsuit Tuesday, saying the publishers used monopoly power to allege unspecified copyright violations and demand improper payoffs for access to textbooks.
