A California federal judge on Tuesday admonished Sidley Austin LLP attorneys after their client Synopsys Inc. allegedly copied some of Mentor Graphics Corp.'s source code in Synopsys' infringement suit over patents for software that create circuit schematics.

Synopsys Circuit-Design Patent Claims Invalid Under Alice
Mentor Graphics Corp. scored a partial victory over Synopsys Inc. on Tuesday when a California federal judge ruled that the claims of three Synopsys patents on software that creates circuit schematics, which Synopsys says Mentor infringed, are invalid for lack of inventiveness under the U.S. Supreme Court's Alice ruling.

Mentor Graphics Corp. urged a California federal judge on Friday to invalidate two Synopsys Inc. patents on software that creates circuit schematics, arguing the inventions Synopsys claims Mentor Graphics infringes are unpatentable because they describe processes that a human can perform without a computer.
