An Alabama federal judge on Tuesday declined to certify two nationwide consumer classes proposed by a couple who claim infant sleepers made by Mattel Inc. subsidiary Fisher-Price Inc. are prone to developing dangerous mold, finding the classes lacked adequate definition and some of the claims weren't certifiable.

An Alabama couple claiming their son suffered health problems because of mold that formed on an infant sleeper made by Mattel Inc. subsidiary Fisher-Price Inc. proposed in federal court Tuesday two nationwide classes of consumers who either purchased the recalled sleepers or received them as gifts.

Two consumers hit Fisher-Price Inc. and Target Corp. with a proposed class action in an Alabama federal court Friday over a recently recalled infant sleeper they said develops mold that leads to respiratory problems for children.
