The Rhode Island federal judge overseeing a qui tam action against U.S. Navy contractors accused of stealing nearly $18 million from the government threw out accusations Tuesday brought by an already-jailed fraudster who alleged whistleblowers were attempting to defame him by bringing the civil suit.

Two whistleblowers relaunched a False Claims Act suit Friday against defunct defense contractor Advanced Solutions for Tomorrow Inc. after the end of criminal proceedings in which former ASFT executives copped to their roles in a $10 million U.S. Navy kickback and bribery scheme.
