A Florida federal judge on Friday awarded a combined $118,500 in damages to 25 Carnival Cruise Lines passengers who in 2013 were stranded for days without power as raw sewage overflowed onboard their ship, leaving another eight passengers empty-handed in the ruling.

A Florida federal judge is set to consider whether nearly three dozen passengers of the Carnival Triumph cruise ship deserve up to $5,000 per year for life to address medical issues allegedly resulting from an ill-fated voyage last year that stranded passengers for days without power and created overflows of raw sewage.

Carnival Cruise Passenger Sues Over Sewage-Filled Voyage
A passenger from the disabled Carnival Triumph cruise ship sued Carnival Corp. in Florida federal court Friday, the day after the vessel was finally towed to shore, alleging that the company knew the ship was not seaworthy even before an engine room fire knocked out power and created overflows of raw sewage.
