Westlake Won't Get AIA Fees After Nixing Parts Of Patent
Fees paid to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as part of an America Invents Act review cannot be recovered in California federal court, a judge has ruled, denying auto finance company Westlake Services LLC 's bid to recoup more than $73,000 it spent successfully challenging a rival lender's patent.

Continuing Patent Suit Post-Alice Not Exceptional, Judge Says
An auto finance company's refusal to concede that its patent was invalid after the U.S. Supreme Court's Alice decision doesn't make the infringement suit it brought against rival lender Westlake Services LLC an "exceptional" case, a California federal judge said Monday.
