The trustees of Boston University have agreed to settle lawsuits with a firm representing 25 companies, including Microsoft Corp. and Apple Inc., over their use of a patented semiconductor, the university said Thursday.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. violated U.S. federal laws by replicating Boston University's patented processes for making semiconductor devices used in light-emitting diode products, according to a patent infringement lawsuit filed Thursday in Massachusetts federal court.
