The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has adopted deadlines for ruling on Georgia's plan for reaching Clean Air Act sulfur dioxide emissions benchmarks and on the Sierra Club's opposition to five Southern Co. coal plant permits, settling a lawsuit brought by the environmental group, according to agency documents published Tuesday.

The Sierra Club on Monday sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's chief in Washington federal court for allegedly failing to act on Georgia's plan for meeting Clean Air Act standards and not responding to the organization's opposition to Southern Co. power plants.
