A California federal judge on Wednesday handed wins to Google, YouTube, Facebook, VMWare and EMC Corp. in a long-running dispute with PersonalWeb over its data processing systems patents, holding that the patents are invalid and PersonalWeb therefore can't go after the companies for infringement.

A California magistrate judge has awarded $124,000 in sanctions to Google Inc. after it sufficiently showed that plaintiff PersonalWeb Technologies LLC deleted emails relevant to its suit accusing Google and YouTube LLC of infringing patents for data processing systems.
