Promega Corp. can label its DNA fingerprinting products for forensic use, paternity testing, or research or clinical purposes, after a federal judge on Wednesday invalidated claims in a patent asserted by Life Technologies Corp. that discloses fluorescence-based DNA analysis.

Circuit Judge Richard A. Posner ruled Thursday that Promega Corp.'s DNA fingerprinting products infringe a California Institute of Technology patent and that Promega flouted a licensing contract with Life Technologies Corp. by failing to pay a 2 percent royalty on product sales.
