Sony Music Entertainment urged a California federal judge on Monday to toss for the fourth and final time a songwriter's heirs' claim that his recording was illegally sampled multiple times, including in the title track of the film "Step Up," saying a remastered recording is not tied to the original.

Sony Music Entertainment Inc., The Walt Disney Co., singer Wyclef Jean and others urged a California federal judge Monday to toss a copyright suit over alleged unauthorized sampling of the rap song "Bumpin' Bus Stop," saying the composer's heirs had not plausibly alleged that they owned the registered recording of the song.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Inc. and Sony Music Entertainment Inc. on Monday were among the latest companies sued in California for copyright infringement over unauthorized sampling of a 1974 recording in several songs, including the title track of the 2006 dance film "Step Up."
