A Seattle federal judge on Tuesday threw out a $21.5 million jury verdict awarded to a man who said a cruise ship door closed on his head and caused brain injury, saying that he deleted emails covered by a defense discovery request and hid one of his email accounts.

A jury has awarded $21.5 million to an Illinois resident who claimed he suffered a traumatic brain injury, dental damage and other injuries when an automatic sliding glass door on one of Seattle-based Holland America Line's cruise ships unexpectedly closed and hit his head.
