An Illinois federal judge on Thursday ordered Sears to produce additional discovery in an ongoing damages suit brought by MemberSelect Insurance over a house fire allegedly started by a clothes dryer Sears sold, saying the retailer violated the rules by withholding relevant manufacturer agreements and a witness.

Sears Holdings Corp. may still have to face claims that a dryer it sold is responsible for starting a house fire, after an Illinois magistrate judge found Thursday that the retailer withheld important information in a lawsuit with insurer MemberSelect Insurance Co.

Sears Holdings Corp. on Thursday urged an Illinois federal judge to free it from an insurance company's lawsuit over losses from a house fire allegedly caused by a defective Electrolux Home Products Inc. dryer, arguing that, as the seller of the appliance, it can't be held strictly liable in connection with the incident.
