A New York federal judge on Tuesday issued a major claims construction ruling for two of Purdue Pharma LP's OxyContin patents that are designed to prevent abuse of the painkiller, clearing the way for a July bench trial with generic producers over whether the patents are valid.

Purdue Pharma LP hit Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. with a suit in federal court in New York on Tuesday accusing Teva of patent infringement for seeking approval for a generic "abuse-proof" version of the painkiller OxyContin.
