A New York federal judge on Friday quashed a proposed class action accusing a JPMorgan Chase & Co. unit of violating cardmember agreements by eliminating balances of customers who overpaid, ruling that the plaintiff lacked standing because he had been issued a refund.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. on Tuesday asked a New York federal judge to toss a proposed class action accusing its Chase Bank USA NA unit of violating cardmember agreements by eliminating balances of customers who overpaid, arguing the plaintiff can't sue because he was refunded the money he lost months before the suit was filed.

A JPMorgan Chase & Co. credit card holder who allegedly had a 67-cent positive balance erased filed a proposed class action against the company Tuesday in New York, alleging the bank violated the terms of its cardmember agreements by eliminating balances of customers who'd overpaid.
